APAC MID-MARKET MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS Q1 FY23

APAC MID-MARKET MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS Q1 FY23

Moore Australia

Opportunistic bargain hunting is on the rise for mid-market M&A, with another strong quarter.

Moore Australia is pleased to publish the Financial Year (FY) 2023, Q1 review of APAC Mid-Market Mergers and Acquisitions.

Highlights of the report include:
  • Continued strong performance in deal activity in the region, particularly for businesses with solid cash flow and profitability
  • 184 deals published in Q1 in the AU and NZ mid-market M&A sector– up from 152 in Q4, and the highest since Q1 FY22.
  • Average deal value across Australian and New Zealand is down by $3M to $47M, but generally in line with recent history
  • IT continues to be the top performing sector despite negative external factors, with Services and Medical sectors close behind.
  • Australia, Japan and India were the top 3 countries in the region, with a 35% increase in volume in Australian deals.
Benjamin Yeo, Chair of the Moore Australia National Corporate Finance Committee stated: “Another strong quarter for the region, with deals increasing for Australia and New Zealand to the highest number in 12 months.  Investors are appearing to take more of a “risk-off” approach, and acquirers now favouring strong cash flow and profitability.

The strong performance continues across the APAC region, in line with historical values. The outlook for the year remains positive, despite the continuing rate increases and broader macroeconomic factors."
